Buying locally raised freezer beef is a rewarding investment in your family’s health, but we know it can be a new experience. We’ve gathered the most common questions from our Northern Virginia community right here.

About Our Beef
What is "Registered Black Angus," and why does it matter? Registered Black Angus cattle have a traceable pedigree that ensures superior genetics. For our customers, this means consistent marbling, exceptional tenderness, and the high-quality flavor that Black Angus is famous for.
Is your beef grass-fed or grain-finished? Our cattle spend their lives on pasture in Fauquier County, enjoying high-quality forage. To ensure the best flavor and marbling for our freezer beef, we "finish" them with a supplemental grain ration. This provides the classic, buttery taste that our families love.
Do you use hormones? We believe in raising healthy animals through proactive care and respect. We do not use growth hormones.
Ordering & Logistics
How much meat will I actually take home? For a Half (Side of) Beef, you can generally expect between 200–250 lbs of packaged meat. For a Whole Beef, it is usually 400–500 lbs. This varies based on the size of the animal and your specific cutting instructions (e.g., keeping bones for soup vs. boneless cuts).
Where do I pick up my order? Once the meat is ready, we'll contact you to coordinate pickup.
Freezer & Storage
What kind of freezer do I need?
Half Beef: A chest or upright freezer approximately 10 - 12 cu. ft. is needed. Standard refrigerator-freezer combos usually do not have enough room for a half beef share. Upright freezers are easier to organize than chest freezers.
Whole Beef: A large chest or upright freezer (20 – 24 cu. ft.) is recommended. Again, Upright freezers are easier to organize than chest freezers.
See the Beef Cut Sheet page for more detailed information.
How long will the beef stay fresh in the freezer? Our beef is professionally vacuum-sealed, which prevents freezer burn. It should remain fresh for 24+ months.
